Yellow Box becomes Money Box
In Battersea Rise London SW11 Boris Johnson's transport for London (TFL) has been raking in a fortune from an oversized yellow box. We applied to the department of transport (DOT) for further details under the freedom of information act and were shocked to see that our concerns had also been raised by them when they authorised the box junction. Basically they are issuing fines to motorists turning left and right across the junction but quite often you can't see the exit until you are already in the junction. The matter is made worse by a pedestrian crossing which you also can't see until the last minute. When the lights turn red you are stuck in the box. TFL have issued around 9,000 tickets in the last year alone. Before the DOT authorised the junction they expressed concerns to TFL that motorists could not see the exit to the box when they entered the junction. TFL pursuaded them that you could just see it and the box was authorised by the DOT who confirmed their approval but also accepted that motorists "would be left in a somewhat awkward situation" !!!
