Contraventions for Parking (Full list with descriptions)
Related contravention codes and specific information relating to having your parking ticket cancelled:
Parked in a meter bay when penalty time is indicated. You must move your car before the time purchased has expired. (Contravention Code 04)
Parked after the expiry of paid for time at a pay and display bay. You must move your car before the pay and display ticket has expired. (Contravention Code 05)
Parked without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket. The pay and display ticket must be clearly displayed on the windscreen. (Contravention Code 06)
Parked with payment made to extend the stay beyond the initial time (Meter Feeding). (Contravention Code 07)
Parked at an ‘out of order’ meter during controlled hours. If a meter shows out of order you are not permitted to park there. (Contravention Code 08)
Parked displaying multiple pay and display tickets where prohibited. (Contravention Code 09)
Parked without payment of the parking charge. (Contravention Code 11)
Parked in a residents' or shared use parking place without clearly displaying either a permit or voucher or pay and display ticket issued for that place. (Contravention Code 12)
Parked in a resident parking space without clearly displaying a valid resident parking permit. A resident permit must be clearly displayed in the windscreen if you park in a resident’s parking space during controlled hours. (Contravention Code 15)
Parked in a permit space without displaying a valid permit. You must not park in a permit holders only space during controlled hours without clearly displaying a valid permit. (Contravention Code 16)
Parked in a residents' or shared use parking place or zone either displaying an invalid permit or voucher or pay and display ticket, or after the expiry of paid for time. (Contravention Code 19)
Parked in a loading gap marked by a yellow line between two spaces. (Contravention Code 20)
Parked in a suspended bay/ space or part of a bay/ space. A suspension is marked by a yellow triangular sign in the immediate vicinity of the sign. (Contravention Code 21)
Re-parked in the same parking space within 1 hour of leaving. In some areas you are only permitted to park for a maximum period. You are not then permitted to re-park in the same row of bays within one hour. You must move your car to a different row of bays. (Contravention Code 22)
Parked in a parking space or area not designated for that class of vehicle. Only certain classes of vehicles may park in some places. (Contravention Code 23)
Not parked correctly within the markings of a bay or space. You must park with all your wheels within the parking bay. (Contravention Code 24)
Parked in a loading bay during restricted hours without loading. Loading bays are for loading and unloading only. (Contravention Code 25)
Vehicle parked more than 50cm from the kerb, and not then within a designated parking space. You may not ‘double Park’. This applies even if no other vehicle is present. (Contravention Code 26)
Parked across a dropped footway. You should not park across a dropped kerb at any time even if road markings or signs indicate that you can.

Parked in a special enforcement area on part of the carriageway raised to meet the level of a footway, cycle track or verge. (Contravention Code 28)
Parked for longer than permitted. This applies in a free parking space with a restriction on the length of stay. You must move your vehicle within the maximum time permitted. (Contravention Code 30)
Vehicle seen contravening a bus lane. You may not park or drive in a bus lane during its hours of operation. (Contravention Code 34)
Parked in a disc parking place without clearly displaying a valid disc. (Contravention Code 35)
Parked in a designated disabled person’s parking space without clearly displaying a valid disability badge. Only blue badge holders may park in a disabled parking space. (Contravention Code 40)
Parked in a taxi rank. Only taxis may park within a taxi rank. (Contravention Code 45)
Stopped where prohibited (on a red route or clearway) (Contravention Code 46)
Parked on a restricted bus stop / stand. You may not park in a bus stop or stand. (Contravention Code 47)
Stopped in a restricted area outside of a school. This is shown by yellow zigzag lines. You may not stop there for any reason during the times shown on the signs. (Contravention Code 48)
A commercial vehicle parked in a restricted street, in contravention of the over night waiting van. No commercial vehicle over 5 tons in weight may park overnight in London streets. (Contravention Code 55)
Parked with one or more wheels on any part of an urban road other than the carriageway (footpath parking) – You are not allowed to park with a wheel on the pavement within the M25 unless specifically allowed by signage. Elsewhere you can park on the pavement unless specifically prohibited. (Contravention Code 62)
Parked after expiry of time paid for in a pay and display car park. (Contravention Code 82)
Parked in a pay and display car park, without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket. (Contravention Code 83)
Stopped on a pedestrian crossing and/or area marked by zigzags. You must not stop on a pedestrian crossing or in the white zigzag areas. (Contravention Code 99)
